Modelling and Simulation of Ti-PMMA sandwich formation

Ti-PMMA sandwich has a great potential for biomedical applications. However, the traditional route of using epoxy resins as an adhesive to glue PMMA to Ti is harmful to the body. Thus, PMMA grafted Ti is used as a starting material in this project, where the interdiffusion of PMMA and grafted PMMA provides the necessary adhesion strength.  The adhesion is achieved via hot-pressing process.

To minimize the experimental procedure and to simplify the process for the future, it is important to develop a model that can exemplify the interface growth during the process.  To develop such a model, material behaviour (viscoelasticity, diffusivity etc.) at the processing conditions needs to be determined. After determination of all the properties, FEM model of the process can be prepared via ABAQUS.
