Graphite degeneration in cast iron with spheroidal graphite

Evaluation of different types of graphite in spheroidal graphite cast iron with regard to their influence on the static and cyclic strength properties

The AiF-funded project deals with the effects on the static and cyclic properties of spheroidal graphite cast iron based on different basic microstructures, graphite degeneration types and impurity and trace element contents. Of particular interest are the influences on the static and cyclic mechanical properties as well as the fracture mechanics.

A material model is to be created as an evaluation criterion for predicting the aforementioned influences on the static and cyclic mechanical properties of cast iron with spheroidal graphite.

In addition, the transferability of such a model is to be tested using different types of cast material.

Finally, the project aims to generate an evaluation criterion for different cast components with spheroidal graphite in order to be able to assess the possible applications in the event of graphite degeneration.
